Hotels of Choice in France
France is so familiar to us all and ideal for a short break across the channel or a longer visit further south. There is a great choice of channel crossings if you are travelling by car from which you can then make use of the very efficient motorways, especially if you travel south. We have selected hotels that are in areas easily accessible either by car or air with an airport nearby, many of them serviced by one of the low-cost airlines.
Normandy is an area rich in history, beautiful countryside and gastronomy. The glorious coastline of Normandy from Cherbourg through to Calais, with the famous Omaha Beach and Deauville at its centre is just a short hop over the Channel.
Brittany has always been very popular with the British for its craggy coastline, hidden bays, delightful villages and gentle climate. Southern Brittany takes you around the corner and down the west coast of France where the Gulf stream warms the land. The upmarket and cosmopolitan resort of La Baule is in one of the most beautiful bays in France with over three miles of glorious, sandy beach.
In South West France as the west coast of France meets the Northern coast of Spain, you will begin to notice a change in the countryside, the people and the architecture. The Basques are very friendly and, whilst still speaking French, also have their own language. Biarritz, very close to the border with Spain, is a chic and fashionable resort with much fine architecture dating back from the 19thC .
The Cote d'Azure, also known as the French Riveria, is well known as the haunt of high society with its Mediterranean location and weather. With lots of fascinating places to visit and explore. The cuisine is worth increasing the waistline for!
